Hackney Town Hall—and Hackney itself—holds a special place in my heart. It was the first place I lived in London, and I used to walk past Hackney Town Hall often as I was getting to know the borough. Hackney is a place full of contrasts, where tradition meets creativity, and there’s always something happening.
The Town Hall underwent an incredible renovation a while ago, transforming the old courtyard into a stunning atrium for wedding ceremonies. Bright, modern, and beautifully designed, it photographs exceptionally well. Among the legal wedding venues in London, it stands out as a unique and spacious option—perfect for couples planning a larger celebration.
After the ceremony and a flurry of confetti, everyone boarded a vintage red double-decker bus and headed south of the river to Peckham. The couple had chosen The Tapas Room for their wedding breakfast. I’m a big fan of using restaurants as wedding venues. Not only does it help reduce costs—eliminating the need to hire furniture, tableware, and other extras—but it also guarantees amazing food. The Tapas Room, though on the smaller side, is ideal for private hire, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere.
One of the absolute highlights of the day was the live music. Antonia’s brother-in-law, a professional jazz musician, gathered a group of talented friends and colleagues to form the ultimate wedding band. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen my fair share of receptions, but this was by far the best live music I’ve ever experienced at a wedding. The dance floor was electric—I even found myself in the middle of it, dancing along with everyone else!
Antonia and Ian- Thank you again for having me be a part of your wedding. It was a blast!
