2023 was an intense year.
After about 13 years of living in London, my husband and I took a risk and moved out of London to Sheffield, South Yorkshire. We had loved living in London, but we just weren’t able to get everything we wanted in buying a home in London. We also found ourselves wanting more and more to spend more time outdoors and we were just finding it difficult to do with living so much in Central London.
Since weddings of course book in advance, I knew I would be spending a lot of the year driving up and down the M1 or spending time enjoying the LNER. I was a bit nervous about how I would fare with the travel on top of the long wedding days.
It turns out, all of my worry was for nothing. The travel time wasn’t as bad as I expected. The extra time travelling gave me more time for planning, site visits and podcast listening. And when I was in London, I found I was actually taking advantage of London more than when I lived there.
Despite the move North, I’m still happy to travel down South for weddings and I’m excited to discover more venues and landscapes further North. I’d still love to shoot some portraits along Stanage Edge at Sunset if anyone is game!
Some of my favourite moments this year included having a surprise airshow during a wedding, a bride cursing during her wedding vows, and chatting to some of the most interesting guests I’ve ever met. There were weddings that were boiling hot and other days that it was raining sideways all day. But every single one of my couples and their families were absolutely lovely to work with and I had a really incredible set of clients for every wedding this year.
Thank you to all of my couples for a fantastic 2023 and I really can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store!
