Winchester House: A Hidden Gem in Putney

Winchester House is a private members’ club and events venue tucked away in Putney, South West London. It’s a peaceful escape from the busy high street, with a beautiful garden that overlooks the River Thames.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the phrase “Think and Thank” at the main gate. It’s a subtle nod to the building’s history, which dates back to the Putney Debates of 1646. These debates were tied to Oliver Cromwell and his New Model Army, marking an important moment in England’s history.

Once you step through the gate, the front garden welcomes you with lush greenery and tall trees. It’s a quiet and inviting space that sets the tone for what’s to come. Out the back, the rear garden opens up to stunning views of the River Thames, providing a peaceful and scenic spot that feels miles away from the city.

Juliet and Liam’s Wedding

You couldn’t have asked for better weather on the day of Juliet and Liam’s wedding, and it made photographing along the Thames feel a bit like being on holiday. I started by capturing Juliet as she arrived through the main gate, then followed her up the stairs into the main room for the ceremony.

After the ceremony, we headed out to the front of Winchester House for the confetti toss. I always recommend using lots of large, colorful pieces of confetti, and Juliet and Liam certainly delivered! It was probably the most dense confetti throw I’ve ever experienced. It was absolutely hilarious to see the confetti pouring off Juliet afterward.

The front garden was perfect for family photos and couples’ portraits, while the rear garden, with its beautiful views of the Thames, became the centre of the celebration that afternoon. Guests relaxed, chatted, and enjoyed watching boats row up and down the Thames while live music from the amazing mariachi band filled the air.

The evening was so much fun to be part of. The speeches were fantastic, full of laughter and heartfelt moments. I loved sitting at the tables with the guests, getting to know Juliet and Liam’s family and friends—it really made the whole day feel even more personal and special.

Thank you again for having me be apart of your incredible wedding day!
