In the United States and Canada, it’s common to have a senior portrait shoot to mark graduating from high school. For me, growing up in the U.S., this was something I looked forward to as well. It was more than just the standard school portrait, it was a chance to show off our personalities and celebrate this important transition in life.
For some reason, these photoshoots aren’t very popular in the U.K. or across Europe. However, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph sessions for fellow Americans visiting London or living abroad with their families.
How long is the senior photoshoot?
For most sessions, including senior portraits, couples, engagements, and individual portraits, I recommend a 1.5-hour shoot. This gives us plenty of time to explore multiple backdrops, ease into the session, and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Longer sessions allow us to cover more ground across London, but it can get sometimes tiring staying in “model mode” for extended periods.
What do you suggest wearing?
Always wear something that makes you feel comfortable and reflects your personality. Pops of colour photograph beautifully in London, especially against the city streets and historic stone buildings.
Try to avoid large logos or bold text on shirts, as they can distract from your face and the overall aesthetic of the images.
Can we change outfits?
Absolutely! Ideally, we’ll keep outfit changes to a minimum to maximize our shooting time but quick, simple swaps (like a jacket or top layer) are easy to do on the go. If you’d like a full outfit change, we’ll plan locations on the way for you to be able to change.
Can you include family pictures during the session?
Yes, of course! If you’re traveling with family, we can absolutely include a few portraits together during your session.
What locations will we visit during the shoot?
I’ve been photographing in London for over 15 years and know the city inside and out. Typically, we’ll start at a key location, either an iconic landmark or a neighbourhood you’re drawn to and build the session from there.
I like to keep things flexible to accommodate lighting and weather. We’ll usually aim to include a mix of architecture and greenery to give your gallery a nice variety.
A 1.5-hour session generally covers one area of London comfortably. Longer sessions are available if you’d like to explore more.
Can you work around our schedule?
I know London trips can be packed with sightseeing, so if your itinerary is tight, I highly recommend a sunrise shoot. Morning light is soft and flattering, the streets are quieter, and you’ll still have the whole day to explore afterward.
Since I also photograph weddings (mostly on weekends), weekday sessions tend to offer more flexibility.

Shooting at dawn, especially in busy places like Tower Bridge can have rewarding results.
What happens if it rains?
Rain in London is pretty normal! Fortunately, it usually comes in short bursts followed by clear or overcast skies. We can easily adjust the session as needed, ducking into a covered market or simply waiting out a passing shower. I always build in some flexibility just in case.

How do we book?
Please get in touch via my contact form! From there, I can confirm availability and start planning your shoot. If you’d like to chat beforehand, we can set up a pre-session Zoom call to go over everything.
