I have a special place in my heart for December weddings. On a cold winters day, there’s something really special about walking into a hotel as stunning and timeless as Great Fosters.  It’s lovely to walk into the lobby, see the Christmas decorations and feel the warmth of the fireplace. I’ll never get tired of photographing weddings in buildings like this, it’s straight out of a Jane Austen novel!

With December weddings in England, you know it’s going to be an indoor affair.  And Great Fosters was perfect for this.  Helen and James took advantage of Great Fosters’s lovely Orangery for the ceremony.  It’s the perfect space, which lets in the winter light and overlooks the garden, but keeps everyone nice and toasty.  Even though it was bitterly cold, the sun was shining, and it made the most beautiful backlight I’ve ever had during a December wedding.

After the ceremony, we headed straight outside to the garden to do some photos and video while we still had some daylight left. With summer weddings, I have loads of daylight to work with and plenty of flexibility in the schedule, but in winter, when when the sunsets so early, we need to focus on getting the outdoors shots done as soon as possible.  Once the sunsets, the schedule can be a bit more flexible.

This wedding was extra lovely as they opted to have my highlights video option added on top of their photography coverage. Helen and James just wanted a little bit of video of their wedding, but didn’t want to add a full extra team to their wedding day.  I focused on doing video during the ceremony and speeches while my lovely second shooter Nicola focused on photography.  I’ve linked their highlights video at the bottom of this blogpost.

Helen and James- Thank you again for having me be apart of your incredible wedding. You both, and your friends and family were so lovely to work with and being able to shoot in Great Fosters was an absolute dream!
