This area of North East London holds a special place in my heart. When my husband and I first moved to London, we rented a small flat on Broadway Market. It’s the first area of London that I really got to know well and loved exploring the back streets of.
I know Ruth and Pepe really love this area as well and have truly embraced it as their home. For their wedding ceremony, they chose St. Paul’s in West Hackney. It’s a church close to their hearts, and they loved what it stood for from both a community and political values standpoint. It’s a modern church that really embraces the community. After the ceremony, the guests had drinks and snacks in the church while we did family photos in the garden outside.
Ruth and Pepe initially weren’t sure about having confetti after their wedding ceremony. However, during our Zoom chat, I persuaded them to embrace it and give it a go, and I’m so glad I did. It was such a fun moment, and their faces during the confetti aisle were amazing. It resulted in one of my favourite confetti photos ever.
Afterwards, everyone made the 15-minute walk to Core Clapton. Over the course of the walk, I stole Ruth and Pepe away a few times to do some couple portraits with the various backgrounds we found along the way. My favourite was this grey and black painted wall that really made Ruth’s pink wedding dress pop.
Ruth and Pepe wanted a relaxed, informal, and somewhat “alternative” feel to their wedding, and they found Core Clapton was the perfect fit for this. Plus, Core Clapton is a fantastic venue from a photography perspective. The white walls and bright space really create a lovely soft light on the guests’ faces, making it a dream for documentary photography and capturing real moments. It’s truly a blank slate that allows couples to add as much character and personality as they choose. What’s really lovely is that Core Clapton is a charity, so hiring out the event space helps fund and support their charity work.
I really loved photographing all of the epic dancing at this wedding, and I always enjoy it when wedding guests really go for it on the dance floor.
Thank you so much Ruth and Pepe for having me be apart of your incredible wedding. It was so lovely to get to know you both!
